Former President Trump Sues NY Attorney General Letitia James In Home State of Florida

The Trump Organization has filed a lawsuit against NY Attorney General Letitia James in the Florida State Circuit Court alleging that James’ investigation into allegations of financial fraud is nothing more than an abuse of power and a political witch hunt.

The complaint argues that James ran for office in 2018 with the express intention of defaming and financially destabilizing Donald Trump and the Trump Organization. The suit claims that her efforts are little more than a baseless “witch hunt” and that James deliberately waged a “relentless, pernicious, public and unapologetic crusade” against the Trump Organization and Donald Trump himself.

The 41-page lawsuit explicitly cites the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, implying that since James collected data about it while conducting her legal probe, the trust should be insulated from her and any further attempts at revealing what’s contained in the trust. This includes the former President’s last will and testament, his estate plan, and other directions on how his investments and holdings should be distributed after his passing.

The lawsuit alleges that under Florida law, the revelation of a revocable trust, while the settlor is still living, is a significant violation of the settlor’s right to maintain privacy.

A representative for Letitia James said that the NY Attorney General’s Office will not dismiss the $250 million civil action against the Trump Organization, nor will they be stopped by any other lawsuits filed against them.

The representative elaborated, saying “We sued Donald Trump because he committed extensive financial fraud. That fact hasn’t changed, and neither will our resolve to ensure that no matter how powerful or political one might be, no one is above the law.”
